16th June 2012 - Meanwhile Gardens near Portobello Road
The Event
We arrived at the Meanwhile Gardens near Portobello road to see a large stage being set up and musicians already plucking melody and rhythms from their instruments. Nearby the gardeners were setting up stall to show how to grow this fresh and healthy produce in the cracks and crevices of the city as well as these local gardens. |
The Paintings and Sculptures
The paintings were hung on railings that surrounded the skating rink in Hyde Park railings style. The reflective sculptures joined the sunny afternoon crowds on the lawns around the stage that not only started to play great music but also to read poetry and stories for the children. |
Farm the City London
16th June 2012 - Meanwhile Gardens near Portobello Road W10 I must say that the people of Havanna Cuba are an inspiration in their growing of vegetables in every crack of their city. And they don't have that many cracks compared with London. Just look at all those London gardens either grassed or concreted over! Of course, the people of Todmorden have spawned the Cuban concept that is now spreading under their banner 'Incredible Edible'. And there is something else which is important that Ros has highlighted on their website www.farmthecitylondon.com The fresher you eat your produce the more healthy it is. We think it is due to the fact that the cells in what you are eating are living in freshly picked produce, rather than dead as in bought food. 'Race Into Time' was delighted to be able to support this oh so important initiative that is for everyone's benefit. |
