The atmosphere was one of the exhilaration of young people from all over Europe going to this farm deep in the English countryside to learn about natural or 'real' farming. What they demonstrated was the joy of being close to Nature. The Saturday evening was spent singing, eating and a little bit of drinking round a huge campfire in the middle of one of the fields. |
I am searching for the words to explain why these sculptures and paintings were there! The English teapots with runners and swimmers seemed a world away and their Olympic references even further. We thought of the Olympic crowds being herded along by uniformed megaphones, with their culinary selection of MacDonalds and Coke. We looked up as the sun settled beyond the trees and the flicker of the flames lit up real English beer and grub that had come straight from the soil beneath us. And I remembered why we were there. |
