Tthe Acton Gardening Association are staging their Open Day under the banner of 'The Green Olympics'. Open Day featured The penultimate date of the Art Exhibition 'Race Into Time' as featured on this website. Organic Cook and Cookery teacher Barny Haughton who helped start Bordeaux Quay in Bristol. This cookery and food demonstration was entertaining and informative and of unusual and exciting interest - do not miss it next time if Barry comes again. Fascinating. The Royal Bee Keeper, John Chapple with a glass demonstration hive and lots of pots of honey for everyone. The String Quartet was led by allotmenteer and violinist Laura Samuel who also plays regularly at the Proms. After this appearance at Acton Gardening Association’s Open day she rushed to Heathrow to fly for an evening concert in Berlin. Home cooked food and plant sale. Brentford based 'Cultivate London' were selling flowers and herbs grown by young people, in their scheme to provide youngsters with permanent jobs. History of the Allotments in Acton
They fought a battle to stay alive seven years ago after the alleged Honourable Company of goldsmiths, who had been left the land in the 1600’s by John Perryn, a blacksmith from Bromyard,Herefordshire, donated a huge tract of land for the good of the people of Acton. In their wisdom the Goldsmiths let the land on long leases. The allotmenteers got three months notice but survived after a year long battle. Full Story |
