Sculptures of ancient marshland creatures in the making
The Sculptures
Bronze sculptures by Stephen Vince, on display at Leyton Marsh - The Rain Bull Man Emerging Swimming Elephant Ancient Marsh Creature In conjunction with Leyton Marsh artist Jane Bednall, the public were invited to participate in creating the art pieces. This concept in the tradition of earlier Public Participation works by Stephen Vince and has added a new dimension to the 'Race Into Time' tour. Jane Bednall orchestrated the creation of a large canvas made up of individual small canvases, each painted by local visitors. |
The Marsh
The reason for the celebration on the 21st October 2012 was the success of the campaign to have the Olympic building taken down and Leyton Marsh returned to a Marsh. So far they have turfed the area where the building was, so true marshland is in the future. The Sculpted Marshland Creations The Public at Leyton Marsh were invited to create ancient marshland creatures using only natural found materials. Sticks and fibrous plant material were gathered from the edge of the marshand; clay was brought from Runnymede (the home of Democracy). The resulting extraordinary creations by old and young alike speak volumes about the past and the future of these important marshes. |
Art into Action - Jane Bednall and her giant canvas painted by the visitors
Jane Bednall's Marsh Canvas
Jane Bednall invited the public who visited Leyton Marshes on the 21st October during the Celebration Day to paint their impression of the marshes. |
They painted them on small canvasses. Jane then amalgamated them in the form of large canvas mosaic - a true celebration of the return of the marsh to the people from and after the Olympics 2012
